Noninvasive imaging technology used to obtain high resolution cross-sectional images of the retina. The individual layers of the retina can be differentiated and even measured for thickness at a micron level that aids in early detection and diagnosis of retinal diseases and conditions. This is an in-depth scan that provides a simulated 3-D image of the retina. Compared to the traditional fundus photos, although still useful, are obtained with a high-powered camera that provide 2-D pictures that image the surface of the retina.
